Description
Sydney, NSW. 1957-09. A convoy of RAAF trucks, transporting examples of enemy and allied rockets, parked in Martin Place, crowded with spectators. During its journey from the Weapons Research and Development Establishment at Salisbury SA to the Australian War Memorial at Canberra the convoy paused regularly to give the public an opportunity to view the weapons. Note the German V2 rocket (left) on its original towed transporter and elevating mechanism. Part of the rocket's skin has been replaced with a transparent window enabling viewers to examine the engine and combustion chamber. (RAAF Neg. No. G5108) (Original print held in AWM Archive Store)
