Portrait of 404324 Flying Officer (FO) Henry John 'Donk' Bray of 3 Squadron RAAF (3 Sqn), of Mooloolah, Queensland, standing beside a Curtis P40 aircraft. The nose art depicts an Australian kangaroo kicking a German Dachshund. FO Bray enlisted at Brisbane on 19 August 1940 and trained as a pilot. He was posted out of 3 Sqn in June 1943 for further training and in December 1943 joined 451 Squadron, RAAF. In July 1944 he was promoted to Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) and in December of that year was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Flt Lt Bray was killed in an air battle on 14 March 1945 and is buried at the Cambridge Regional Cemetery, England.
