Description
Switzerland. c. 1943-11. Three Allied servicemen wearing skiing equipment in a snow covered alpine field after a downhill ski race. Left to right: Rossi, a South African serviceman; Lance Bombardier Lloyd Moule, 3rd Anti-Tank Regiment AIF; and Paul Barlow, British Army. The three had escaped to Switzerland after the Allied invasion of southern Italy and although officially interned and under Swiss army control these men and many other allied ex prisoners of war (POW) were essentially free pending their repatriation. Note the competitors numbers they are wearing and the farmhouse at right rear. Moule had been captured by the Germans west of Tobruk on 1941-04-08.
