Description

Leyte Island, Philippines. Church of the patron saint, Alangalang. It was erected in 1917 by Reverend Father Madeo Abila 75 years old priest. Japanese bombing and machine gunning of guerillas in the early stages of occupation and later American artillery blasts damaged windows and roof of this as yet unfinished edifice. US 24th Division troops used part of church as a command post and later as a medical clearing station.
