Description
HMAS Kanimbla, a Landing Ship, Infantry (LSI) about to berth. Her decks are crowded with her crew and Australian soldiers returning from Rabaul at the end of the Second World War. Note the Landing Craft, Infantry (LCI) hanging from her starboard side and the dazzle camouflage paint scheme covering the ship. A type 271 radar lantern is fitted above the bridge. A single 2 pounder Anti Aircraft gun is fitted in the bridge wings. At the bottom left is a fuel storage tank sited for rapid jettisoning in emergencies, forward of that the type of davits used to lower the landing craft are shown clearly.
