Description
A British officer (centre) releasing his hold on a hooded Japanese war criminal as the prisoner falls to his death. The trapdoor has just been sprung by the operator whose hands can been seen holding the release lever at right. These gallows had provision for multiple simultaneous executions (note the D-bolt shackle at top right and circle painted on the trapdoor for positioning the condemned). The photographer captioned his original print "On the Way."
