Gaza, Palestine, c. 1917-04-19. A portly German general (right) stands beside a group of Turkish soldiers who are manning a .303 Vickers machine gun captured from British forces in their second abortive attack on Gaza. The Turks turned the weapon against Australian and British troops. The German officer has a pair of binoculars hanging around his neck and is carrying a riding crop.
