Gaza, Palestine, c. 1917-04-19. A group of German and Turkish officers and men stand with a despatch rider's 1915 Triumph motorcycle (registration no. LB1287) captured from the Australians during the second abortive attack by British forces on Gaza. The five men in the front row are all officers of the general staff, with a German general (second from left). The men behind the officers are Turkish soldiers who are perhaps a personal escort or bodyguard for the general. Four of the five officers have pairs of binoculars hanging around their necks.
