Description
Barents Sea. 1942-09. A barrage of anti aircraft fire from a British light cruiser, probably HMS Scylla, escorting convoy PQ18 to Russia. The fire is directed against a German aircraft (not seen) within sight of the convoy's landfall. At the lower centre of the photograph is a quadruple 2 pounder AA mounting. Two 20 mm Oerlikon AA guns and what appears to be a 4.5 inch dual purpose gun in action aft.
