Description
Members of the Assault Pioneer Platoon, Support Company, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR), stand in the shade of some trees just before they leave the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base to go out on an operation. Most of the men's packs and weapons are lying on the ground among them. The SLR rifle resting on the pack in the foreground has a shell dressing attached to its butt. A soldier (left), who is the platoon's signaller, is carrying a large pack on his back which includes a radio transceiver with an aerial sticking up from it. He is holding an American M16 carbine in his hand. The unit's M60 machine gun is sitting on its tripod on the ground behind him, with several belts of ammunition lying over it.
