Description

Aerial photograph of a 750-pound high explosive bomb dropped by a Canberra B20 light bomber of No. 2 Squadron RAAF exploding on a bend of the Ho Chi Minh Trail during a bombing raid on a section of the trail that passes over the steep Tiger Mountain about eighty kilometres west of Hue. The pilot of the aircraft and the flight commander was Squadron Leader Brian O'Shea, while the navigator and bombing officer was Squadron Leader Frank Lonie. The aim of their mission was to help make the dirt road impassable for trucks bringing supplies from North Vietnam. The landscape all around the trail is heavily pockmarked with bomb craters, showing the intensity of the bombing campaign to halt traffic on the road. (Formerly 200257)
