Description
Boomerang aircraft No A46-53 fitted with a moulded plywood long range fuel tank under the fuselage. 413455 Flight Lieutenant Walter Ross Vernon, No. 5 Squadron RAAF, was killed when flying this aircraft during ground support operations at Mawaraka, Bougainville Island on 11 January 1944. Note the aircraft hanger and Beaufort light Bomber at rear. Both aircraft appear to be fresh from the factory as neither bears squadron identification markings.
