Description

A rocket forming part of a Vulcan Phalanx Close-in Weapon System (CIWS) soars into the air during a practice firing from the RAN Guided Missile Destroyer HMAS Brisbane, shortly after the ship's deployment to the Persian Gulf to serve in the Gulf War as part of Operation Damask. The primary role of the CIWS was defence against anti-ship missiles.
