Description
Gulf of Oman, c. 1990-12. Taking a break from their duties, two Electrical Technical Systems (ETS) crewmen aboard the Guided Missile Destroyer HMAS Brisbane enjoy a recreational game of chess in the room where they work. Behind the men is a bank of electronic equipment including, probably, radar and sonar sets. The room is the centre on the ship responsible, among other things, for gunnery control and giving early warning of approaching enemy aircraft. The Brisbane, deployed to the Persian Gulf area as part of Operation Damask, will soon see service in the Gulf War.
