Persian Gulf, c. 1991-01. Thick black smoke belches from a funnel aft of the main mast on the RAN Guided Missile Destroyer HMAS Brisbane, the smoke probably indicating that there is some problem with one of the ship's boilers. Two RAN electricians are standing on the landing beside the main mast. The Brisbane, deployed to the Gulf as part of Operation Damask, is serving in the Gulf War.
