Description

RAAF Supermarine Southhampton Mk 1 aircraft A11-2 passing over Coode Island and the Maribyrnong River, with the suburb of Footscray in the distance. Three of the aircraft's crew of five are sitting in open cockpits in the nose of the aircraft, while the other two are sitting in open cockpits behind the engine. The aircraft, one of only two Southhamptons that saw service with the RAAF, was a reconnaissance flying boat. The two Southhampton aircraft were formed into a coastal reconnaissance flight that was based at Point Cook, Victoria.
