Western Transvaal, South Africa, c. 1901. Holding the reins of two horses, Lieutenant (Lt) N. McGregor of the 3rd New South Wales Bushmen stands behind a simple battlefield grave on an arid treeless plain. The grave consists of a cross made out of packing case wood mounted over a pile of rocks. Lt McGregor is carrying a pistol in a holster on his hip. (Donor I. Craig)
