Description

Australian guard, Lance Corporal Gary Bland of Fairfield, Sydney, NSW, protects loyal Montagnard soldiers deep in the jungle as they remove bags of rice stock-piled by the Viet Cong for wet season operations against the South Vietnamese government. Australians taking part in Operation Abilene, thirty five miles from Saigon, found two Communist food caches containing 1000 x 200lb bags of rice. They gave it all to the loyal Montagnards protecting a nearby village.
