Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Harold Alexander Letch, AFC. Originally a member of the 2nd Light Horse Regiment, Lt Letch won an MC for conspicuous gallantry at the Battle of Gaza on 1917-04-19. He subsequently served with No. 1 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps (AFC), and was killed in action in an air battle over Palestine on 1918-08-22 when his Bristol fighter was hit by an incendiary bullet. The RFC wings and the badges of rank as a lieutenant have been hand painted onto the original portrait.
