Description

A Unit roll compiled by Major James (Jim) Jacobs of the Signals 8th Australian Division and 6th Line Section. The roll lists all members of the unit by section, dividing individuals into those who were original members of the unit and those who were reinforcements. The roll lists the names, ranks and fate of members of the unit, who made prisoners of war by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in February 1942. The column on the far right of some lists notes the Japanese work party in which a soldier served while a POW. The roll was probably compiled by Major Jacobs after the war, possibly while working on the publication "Through:the story of signals 8th Australian Division and Signals, AIF Malaya", Sydney 1949, of which Jacobs was a joint editor.
