Syracuse, Sicily, Italy. 1943-07-10. The invasion of Sicily was carried out by an initial assault force of 140,000 British, American, Canadian and French troops. This force, together with 14,000 vehicles, 600 tanks and 1,800 guns, were carried in 3,000 ships including Australian corvettes. The crowded beach head at Syracuse is shown.
