Description
Emerging from the banks of the Song La-Nga river with a Viet Cong rifle and ammunition is Corporal George Newton of Barcaldin, Qld. Behind him is the Viet Cong member who led the patrol to the hiding place. The Viet Cong member was captured by 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR), during an earlier sweep of Vo Xu village on Operation New Life. The rifle, an old World War 2 Mauser, was in excellent condition, and a large quantity of ammunition was seized.
