Description

Damage caused to the side of an M113A1 armoured personnel carrier (APC) of A Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment, when two Claymore mines carried on sponsons or storage racks inside the APC exploded while the vehicle was on fire. The APC had been disabled on 1967-02-17 when hit by three rounds of recoilless rifle fire during Operation Bribie in the Light Green, one of the rounds killing the crew commander, 3786644 Trooper Vic Pomroy. Later, Australian soldiers set the APC on fire to prevent the Viet Cong from salvaging it for their own use. The wrecked vehicle was brought back to the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) base the next day. (Donor F.A. Roberts)
