London, England. 1944-04. The first wartime Empire Conference was attended by, left to right, Field Marshal Smuts, Mr Mackenzie King, Mr Winston Churchill, Mr John Curtin and Mr Fraser. They were Prime Ministers respectively of South Africa, Canada, Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. Mr Churchill presided and described the conference as `the highest pinnacle which our world-wide family association has yet reached'.
