Description

Illustrated and bound typescript by Paul Rettell: "A Soldier's True Story - The Life of an Infantry Soldier in World War II From 1941 to 1945" (80pages). After training in America, Rettell served in the United States 126 Infantry 32nd Division in various areas throughout the Pacific, including: Philippines (Leyte Gulf), Dutch New Guinea, Goodenough Island, Buna and Australia. Rettell encountered many Australian soldiers during various combined operations in the South West Pacific and during recreation leave and re-training sessions. Rettell's final duties included guarding Prisoners of War - mainly German soldiers - in various forts in America. The transcript is illustrated with numerous photographs. Rettell was awarded various American service and campaign medals and his unit was awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation, Combat Infantry.
