Description
Original letter written by Sergeant Herbert (Bert) Keily (No.1152, 10 Battalion, 1st Reinforcements, D Comapny, 15 Platoon) on 15 June 1915 to his mother from the trenches in Turkey. He describes the continuous nature of attack that he has endured since arriving on 25 April 1915, the effect it has had on him and the impact of the fighting for Australia generally. Mentioned also is the lack of writing paper, letters received and other aspects of trench life. Sergeant Keily was killed in France on 16 August 1916 while serving with the 50th Battalion. He was from Plympton, South Australia.
