Officer Commanding the 1st Australian Reinforcement Unit, Captain Paul Mench of Lindfield, NSW (left), wishes Private Noel Pettitt (one thousandth reinforcement in the theatre) the best of luck for the rest of his tour of duty. [The following month on 27 November 1967, 3790094 Pte Noel Charles Pettitt died of wounds at the 8th Field Ambulance, Vung Tau. Mench rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col). He died during a bushwalking accident in Queensland in June 1980. At the time of his death he was Commanding Officer of the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR). ]
