Surf Carnival trophy : Leading Aircraftman T A Dodd, RAAF
Description
Small cylindrical trophy made from stainless steel with a black bakelite base.The body of the trophy is engraved `Presented By I.McSparron To T. Dodd'. A small silver plaque is rivetted to the base and engraved `NTH. NEW GUINEA SURF CARNIVAL OPEN SURF RACE 15-7-45'.
History / Summary
Won by 75799 Leading Aircraftman Thomas Arthur Dodd during the North New Guinea Surf Carnival held at Lae on 15 July 1945. Dodd, a motor mechanic by trade, had volunteered with the Evans Head Surf Life Saving Club before the war. He enlisted on 18 May 1942 aged 18 and was discharged in April 1946 from 33 Squadron.
