Cape Town, South Africa. 1901. Formal portrait of ?Private Frederick James Purvis, Cape Town Guards, British Army. After emigrating to Australia he served with C Company, 44th (Riverina) Infantry Regiment training senior cadets during WW1. In the AWM Collection is a large souvenir shield made by Purvis in this year from bullets, badges and buttons. (Donor J. Robinson)
