Studio portrait of three members of the Australian Army Nursing Service (AANS) soon after they were decorated with the Royal Red Cross (RRC) at an investiture service at Buckingham Palace by King George V. The awards had been announced in the Birthday Honours of 3 June 1916. Left to right Head Sister Laura Cumming Pratt, who was initially awarded an Associate Royal Red Cross (AARC) (2nd Class honour), and was awarded the RRC (1st Class Honour) in 1919; Matron Ethel Gray RRC and Sister Florence Annie Nicholls AARC, (for her work in Egypt).
