Gio Linh, South Vietnam. 1969-04-25. Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Jim Geedrick, an Indigenous soldier from Rockhampton, Qld, raises the Australian flag over a South Vietnamese Government outpost near the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) and North Vietnam. An adviser with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Regiment of the South Vietnamese Army, WO1 Geedrick missed the Anzac Day ceremony at Da Nang held by the Australian Army Train Team, Vietnam (AATTV), and decided to do some flag raising on his own. Such occasions were rare, said WO1 Geedrick, as "every time I put the flag up they shoot holes through it".
