Vowles, John Reuben (Flying Officer, b.1921 - d.1944)
Collection relating to the service of 416810 Flying Officer John Reuben Vowles, Royal Australian Air Force, Australia and England, 1943-1944. Collection consists of (1) the Observer's Air Gunner's and Wireless Telegrapher (W/T) Operator's Flying Log Book, kept by Flying Officer John Reuben Vowles during his RAAF training in Australia and subsequent active service, primarily as a navigator for 44 Squadron RAF in England, 1943-1944, and (2) various official papers relating to active duty and death of Flying Officer John Reuben Vowles, including initial 1944 notice of Vowles' not returning from mission, final RAAF pay and War Gratuity records, Vowles' Will, and information sent to Vowles' family from the Imperial War Grave Commission. Vowles lost his life in a flying battle in the Netherlands on 22 June 1944.
