Description
Dutch New Guinea. 1945-03. After spending forty-seven days in an inaccessible valley after their plane crashed and burned (refer to P02018.363), an American WAC corporal, a US Army lieutenant and a US Army sergeant, the only survivors, were found and treated by medical corpsmen who parachuted to their aid. This clearing was cut by other parachutists to enable a glider to land. The rescue glider is in the foreground with a camp for the survivors and rescuers in the background.
