Description

Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. 1968-04. A 90mm recoiless rifle used against a Viet Cong cave in the Long Hai Hills during Operation Cooktown Orchid by Private Ed Wolfe of Waitara, NSW. Helping him to load and fire the rocket is Private Maurice Davidson of Helensburgh, NSW. It was the first time a recoiless rifle had been used by members of 2RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), against the Viet Cong. The operation was twelve miles south of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) Base at Nui Dat.
