Vung Tau, South Vietnam. 1968-04-09. The old and the new colonels speak with the Commander of the Australian Force in Vietnam (AFV), Major General A. L. MacDonald (centre), aboard HMAS Sydney. General MacDonald visited the troop carrier at Vung Tau to farewell the 7th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), and welcome troops of 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). With him is the Commanding Officer of 7RAR, Lieutenant Colonel Eric Smith of Mount Eliza, Vic (left) and the Commanding Officer of 1RAR Lieutenant Colonel Phil Bennett of Perth, WA (right).
