Wet and weary soldiers of D Company, 6RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), board a US Chinook helicopter (CH 47), serial no. 19097, at Fire Support Base Flinders, to return to their base at Nui Dat. 6RAR had just finished Operation Lavarack, a four week reconnaissance in force, during which the Battalion and supporting arms killed 102 Viet Cong (VC), wounded twenty three and captured eight. Note the 106RCL (recoilless rifle), an anti-tank gun in its protective cover ready for transportation.
