Description

United States Women's Army Corps Service Medal. Obverse: Superimposed on a sheathed sword crossed with oak leaves and a palm branch is a bust of Pallas Athene’s profile facing the right. The words "WOMEN'S” are in the upper portion of the contour of the medal and the words "ARMY CORPS" is in the lower portion. A scroll with the words "FOR SERVICE IN THE WOMEN'S ARMY AUXILIARY CORPS" (in four lines) is on the reverse side within an arrangement of thirteen stars. An eagle with it’s wings outstretched is perched on top of the scroll, and in the lower section of the medal the date “1942 – 1943”. In the centre of the scroll are the letters “US”. A loose ring suspender with a pale green ribbon that has gold edges.

History / Summary

The Women's Army Corps Service Medal was awarded for military service under either of the following:
• In the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps between 10 July 1942, and 31 August 1943.
• In the Women's Army Corps between 1 September 1943, and 2 September 1945.
