Description

United States Second World War Victory Medal. The obverse has the female, figure Liberation is shown with her head facing the left as though looking to the dawn of a new day, and her right foot resting on a Roman war god’s helmet. In her right hand is a broken sword with the blade that was broken off in her left hand. Slightly visible behind the war helmet, there is a rising sun with rays shining upward. The words "WORLD WAR II" are immediately below the centre. The words inscriptions "FREEDOM FROM FEAR AND WANT" and "FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND RELIGION" are on the reverse side separated by a palm branch with the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 1914 1945" circling them. It has a loose ring suspender and the ribbon is 1 3/8 inches wide and has five stripes. The first stripe is 3/8 inch of double rainbow in juxtaposition (blues, greens, yellows, reds (center), yellows greens and blues) followed by 1/32 inch of White and a middle stripe 9/16 inch of Old Glory Red. The next stripe is of 1/32 inch White followed by 3/8 inch double rainbow in juxtaposition. The rainbow on each side of the ribbon is a miniature of that used in the WWI Victory Medal. A brooch pin is sewn to the ribbon.
