England. c. 1916. Interior of the hull of a RN balloon carrier converted from a merchant ship and used in feasibility trials of observation balloons by members of the Royal Naval Air Service. The balloons were maintained, assembled and partially inflated below the deck of the ship. Note the balloon being laid out on the floor ready for inflation and the fabric coverings for the walls and roof of the enclosure.
