Pearl Ridge, Bougainville. 1945-03-08. NX103226 Sergeant (Sgt) L. Bell of the 4th Australian Field Regiment unloading a smoke charge prior to placing propaganda leaflets in cardboard container to be placed in 25 pounder shell container. It was part of an operation by members of the Far Eastern Liaison Office (FELO) to broadcast surrender messages to the Japanese on Smith's Hill.
