Kokoda, Papua, 1942-11. A native Papuan carrier (left) and a line of Australian soldiers who are carrying walking sticks and full packs on their backs cross a makeshift wooden bridge over one of the many streams on the way to Wairopi on the northern section of the Kokoda Trail. Below the bridge, another two Australian soldiers are washing or carrying out some other chore on the bank of the jungle stream.
