Yugloslav Army infantry officer's uniform jacket, pre-1941 pattern; 1st Capt. B. Stankovic, 5 Pos. Reg.
Pre-1941 pattern, lined khaki wool uniform jacket with breast and hip pockets and a concealed button front. The maroon, high stand felt collar, and cuff piping designates infantry. Stiffened epaulettes have maroon backing over which is the woven bullion braid and rank insignia (four grouped pips) of a First Captain. Regimental numbers are missing from the epaulettes.
Captain B Stankovic enlisted in the Yugoslav Army as private c 1928. He was captured when he was a First Captain serving with 5 Infantry Regiment, by the German Army after it invaded Yugoslavia in 1941 and imprisoned in Oflag X111-B POW camp at Nurmberg, Germany. He wore the jacket throughout his internment. Released at the end of the war, he migrated to Australia and became an Australian citizen in 1954.
