Description

Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. 1968-08-30. Private Darryl Ward of Gawler, SA, a member of the 4RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 4th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), keeps watch against enemy activity while protecting a bulldozer during Operation Lyrebird in Phuoc Tuy Province. He is armed with a M60 machine gun. The battalion was providing protection for Task Force engineers who were cutting a 200-yard wide track, sixteen miles long through enemy territory, designed to curtail enemy movement in the area.
