Description

South Vietnam. 1968-09. Sydney entertainer, Sandra Nelson, holds a special place in the canteen at B Company at the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR). Before the battalion left Australia, Miss Nelson presented a large photograph of herself to the company, in which her nephew is serving. It is now framed and hangs over the bar at Nui Dat. A fan club quickly developed and several more photographs of her were added to the wall. Pictured are Miss Nelson's Vietnam Fan Club secretary, Corporal Mal Curnow of Salisbury, Qld (left), and Private Alan Green of Tullamarine, Vic, enjoying a cold drink. Note the buffalo skull hanging on the wall in the background.
