Description
Original typescript and handwritten letters by (No.2591) 2nd Air Mechanic Matthew Alexander Braithwaite, 8 (Training) Squadron, Australian Flying Corps, 1918. Describes in diary form his trip to England from Port Said, Egypt in January and February. In particular, his train journey through Italy and France and his impressions of the towns and countryside. He also observes the involvement of the French and English women in the war effort. While on posting to France he describes his first flight in an aircraft and four aerobatic manoeuvres (with diagrams) - 'falling leaf', 'spinning nose dive', 'Immelmann Turn' and 'zooming'.
