Uberi, Papua, 1942-10. VX39117 Captain Douglas Robert Leslie, a surgeon serving with the 2/4th Field Ambulance, looks out over the countryside from the observation post on the ridge above the village of Uberi on the Kokoda Trail. Captain Leslie and the unit's Dental Officer, NX34655 Captain Alan Oliver Watson, have taken two hours to make the 2,000 feet climb up the steep trackless slope. It was to take them a mere twenty minutes to get back down to the village again.
