Dandenong Ranges, Vic. 1943-03-07. Informal portrait of three Allied servicemen, left to right: Electrical Artificer J. J. Peacock of NZ and of Flinders Naval Depot (HMAS Cerberus); Electrical Artificer Arch Williamson of NZ and Flinders Naval Depot (HMAS Cerberus); Wireless Mechanic Don Simons of NSW, outside the Church of St Michael and All Saints, Mount Dandenong. They were guests of Mr and Mrs Tom Rose who on a regular basis, often three times a week, entertained many servicemen who were visiting Melbourne between 1940 and 1948. They would collect the men, often in groups of three, and drive them to the Dandenongs, hotels or theatres in the city, their home in Malvern or Flemington racecourse where the men would be their guests for the day. Often they would take photographs of the men and send a print to them afterwards. (Original print housed in AWM Archive Store and related material held in AWM Private Records)
