Description

Two cross Kelpie-Labrador dogs, Milo (left) and Trojan, trackers working with 6RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 6th Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), Anti Tank Platoon, accounted for two enemy killed during Operation Burnham. They are back in Fire Support Base Diggers Rest with their handlers Private (Pte) Bruce Williams of Pinjarra, WA (left), and Pte Russell McDonald of Burra, SA. Milo, working with two sections of the Tracker Platoon on 1969-09-05, was following up fresh tracks and pointed just as the men smelt food cooking. Minutes later a Viet Cong walked around a corner of the track and was shot. On 1969-09-08 Trojan pointed while working with the tracker sections and a section of V Company (NZ) in bunkers. The bunkers had been used only an hour before. There were two enemy nearby and the gunner killed one of them. Note the 90mm anti tank gun next to Pte McDonald.
