Collection relating to the service of N14130 Leslie Ian Hamilton Robbins
Tulagi, Solomon Islands. 1941-12-31. A group of five soldiers on board a boat from the tender MV Malaita heading for shore, where a small army detachment was based. From left to right: N14276 Corporal Arthur Harold Garwood; N14130 Sergeant Leslie Ian Hamilton (Les) Robbins, N255496 Signalman (Sig) William Allan Appleby; N246397 Sig Angus Edgecombe Forbes; N246439 Sig Kenrick (Ken) John Scully, holding his steel helmet. This group had left Sydney on 1941-12-09 and was making its way to join Lark Force at the Rabaul Garrison. At Rabaul, Sig Scully was confidential secretary to Captain Keith Denny, Commanding Officer of the Fortress Signals, both escaping after the Japanese attack on Rabaul on 1942-02-23. After WW2, Sig Scully was a journalist who wrote under the name of John Dawes.
