Jumbora area, Papua, 1942-12-16. Informal outdoors portrait of NX34655 Captain Alan Oliver Watson, Dental Officer with the 2/4th Field Ambulance, sitting on a log as he pauses for a rest on the road back to Soputa from Gona. He is holding a native bow that he has used as a walking stick over the entire length of the Kokoda Trail. Captain Watson's face shows clear signs of the state of physical and mental exhaustion that he and his colleagues have reached after their arduous campaign over the Owen Stanley Range. (Donor A.
